The Dallas Cowboys host the Oakland Raiders on Thanksgiving afternoon (4:15 pm ET, CBS) and on paper, the Cowboys have a serious advantage. The problem with Dallas though, is that they don’t always show up.
The Cowboys needed a late touchdown pass from Tony Romo to just barely escape with a 7-6 win against Washington on Sunday. They shouldn’t need such heroics on Thursday, but the Raiders will be coming into this game with some confidence after upsetting Cincinnati last week.
Dallas is a 13.5 point favorite and the total for the game is set at 40 at SBG Global.
Oakland has actually won six of the nine all-time meetings against the Cowboys including the last three. The teams last met in 2005; the Raiders won 19-13 at home.
Oakland is playing on Thanksgiving Day for the first time since 1970. The Raiders are 3-2 all-time on Thanksgiving Day games.
Last week the Raiders shocked the Cincinnati Bengals 20-17 as quarterback Bruce Gradkowski made his first start as a Raider and threw the game-tying TD pass to Louis Murphy late in the fourth quarter. The Bengals fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Sebastian Janikowski hit the game wining field goal.
The Cowboys survived against Washington last week but quarterback Tony Romo has a sore back while tight end Jason Witten has a foot injury and linebacker Keith Brooking is dealing with an ankle injury. Those injuries look minor though.
The big question for Dallas is what offense is going to show up, the one that averaged more than 27 points through the first eight games or the one that managed just 14 points over the last two games.
“It’s definitely going to be good for us to come out Thursday and be sharp, and be crisp,” said Dallas WR Patrick Crayton. “It’s got to look like we’re really doing something out there.
“We’ve got to finish drives, whether it be with a field goal or a touchdown. We’d prefer six, but as long as we get some kind of points it’s a successful drive.”
Here are the NFL betting stats for Thursday’s game:
The Cowboys are 4-0 ATS in their last four Thursday games. The Cowboys are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games in November. The Cowboys are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games as a home favorite.
The under is 12-3-1 in the Raiders’ last 16 games in November. The under is 5-2-1 in the Raiders’ last eight road games. The under is 4-1 in the Cowboys’ last five games in November.
