When the New York Yankees defeated the L.A. Angels 5-2 in Game 6 of the ALCS on Sunday night, they not only won the AL Pennant and booked a date with the Philadelphia Phillies in the Fall Classic, they ensured that two of pro sports’ most obnoxious fans would see their teams vying for the World Series.
Just kidding Yankee and Philly supporters…sort of.
Online sportsbooks have set the series prices and no big surprise here: the Yankees are reasonably steep favorites. New York is at -190 while the Phillies, vying for back-to-back titles, are +165.
By virtue of the AL’s 4-3 victory in the 2009 MLB All-Star game, the Yankees will have home-field to start off the Fall Classic, which begins on Wednesday. In the opener, the Yankees are a -165 favorite while Philadelphia is a +150 ‘dog with the over/under set at 8.
In the last 10 meetings overall between the Yankees and the Phillies, the two teams have posted a mark of two overs and eight unders.
In the Bronx Bombers’ last 10 home games overall, they are 9-1 straight up and have gone under the posted total nine times, including seven in a row, and pushed once. Over bettors might want to proceed with a bit of caution.
Nevertheless, the Phillies have trended to higher scoring games when they head out on the road. In their last nine starts away from home, they have recorded eight overs and only one under.
Game 1 Starters:
After being named ALCS MVP, C.C. Sabathia won’t have much time to celebrate as he will get the Game 1 start on Wednesday.
The big left-hander has been money in his last nine home games as the Yankees are 9-0 SU, with a huge under trend – eight unders and only one over.
Sabathia and teammate Alex Rodriguez are the odds-on favorties to take the World Series MVP award at +500.
Cliff Lee, also a lefty, will start for Philadelphia. In Lee’s last 10 games, he has been almost as good as his Pinstripe counterpart, as the Phillies are 8-2 SU during that period.
Lee is listed at +1000 to take this year’s World Series MVP.
Neither team has struggled facing southpaws. In New York’s last 20 games against left-handed pitchers, the Yankees have gone 16-4 SU. The Phillies have also fared well against LHPs going 15-5 SU in their last 20 against southpaws.
Can the Phillies stop the Yankee machine? It’s a tough task, especially when you consider that the Yankees have an impressive 16-4 SU record in their last 20 home games.
Early betting action has the sports betting leaning to the Yanks – SPORTSBETTING.com is reporting 70 percent New York action.
It should be a great World Series. Good luck.
