The Phoenix Suns had a losing record in December and in January after going 14-3 in November. They have started February well though as they won at New Orleans on Monday night, 109-100. That makes three in a row for the Suns overall.
“We did a phenomenal job defensively,” said Suns F-C Amar’e Stoudemire said. “It all goes down to our defensive effort. In the past three NBA betting games we’ve done a great job with that. We wanted to come out and set the tone early.”
The Suns are going to have to play even better on Wednesday if they expect to beat a red-hot Denver team (10:35 p.m. ET, ESPN).
Nuggets are a 7-point favorites at SBG Global and the total is set at 222.5.
Denver is coming off a 112-109 overtime win over Sacramento as Arron Afflalo had six of his twelve points in overtime. Kenyon Martin had 24 points and 12 rebounds while Chauncey Billups added 23.
The Nuggets were playing their fifth straight game without All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony. The Nuggets have been rolling even without Anthony. They have won 10 of their last 11 and nine straight overall.
The Suns have gotten two straight big games from Stoudemire who has been rumored to be on the trading block. He had 36 points and 11 rebounds against Houston on Sunday and then on Monday had 25 points and 12 boards against the Hornets.
“In all three games, we showed grit,” said Suns guard Steve Nash, “That’s what we talked a lot about early in the season – the grittiness and depth we needed to win games. It’s plain to see in the three games we won. More than anything, it’s tiring. It proves you have to go earn it every night.”
The Suns are 29-21 and in seventh place in the Western Conference. The Nuggets are 33-15 and have the second-best record in the Western Conference.
